Between the 4th and 10th of August in 2008 120 dogs from Illatos Street Dog Control Facility had found new owners as a result of our campaign. 58 out of which were adopted on the 10th of August, on our Sunday Adoption Day.
On the 3rd of August in 2008 the Dog Control Facility was full: all 94 kennels were occupied, so it was expected that after the fireworks on the 20th of August (National Holiday) there would be no room left for the usually great number of dogs who ran off.
Vigyél Haza Foundation asked for the media’s help to solve the issue. Because of the attention raised on the situation there had been an escalation in willingness to adopt dogs. Throughout the week a great number of dogs had been adopted.
On the actual Sunday Adoption Day the volunteers of the Foundation registered 998 visitors and 58 dogs had been adopted.
Those 30 dogs remaining at Illatos Street (whose 2 weeks of mandatory observation period had not yet passed) were also adopted later. The Foundation were also reminded and informed all the responsible animal keepers how they can prevent their dogs running away and because of the fireworks providing them with microchips or other forms of identification equipment. We would like to thank the Hungarian media for their help. Without them 120 dogs could not had been rescued and adopted from Illatos Street Dog Control Facility.
